Introducing an exclusive collaboration with five of Hong Kong\u2019s most exciting young artists to create an inspiring invitation to the world of Mondrian<\/p>\n

As part of its \u2018Inspired. By People\u2019 philosophy, MONDRIAN HONG KONG collabo- rates with five artists and their unique perspectives on their hometown, highlighting the city\u2019s di- verse beauty and creating an invitation with depth and meaning to herald the hotel\u2019s launch in No- vember.<\/p>\n

\u2018Postcards from Hong Kong\u2019 is born from the hotel\u2019s fundamental mission to connect to its surround- ings, become a spiritual home of art, performance and design, and build bridges into the local com- munity. It is a first shot across the bows of a soon-to-be-unveiled program of artistic and performa- tive happenings poised to break new ground fusing hospitality and art while redefining the art of hospitality.<\/p>\n

The mission: Invite five inspiring Hong Kong female artists – Mildred Cheng, Xyza Cruz Bacani, Jessie Yip, Vaevae Chan and Charlene Man – to share their view on a Mondrian inspired perspective of what makes the city amazing in their eyes. The scope is wide and the inspirations diverse: people, colour, geometry, architecture, design, patterns, juxtapositions and more.<\/p>\n

This will be distilled to one image each, along with a short artistic statement, printed on postcards allowing a more permanent reminder, a personal touch and a more sensory approach away from daily digital overload, becoming an exclusive invitation sent to Mondrian friends and partners inter- nationally to announce the arrival of Mondrian in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n

MEET THE ARTISTS<\/strong>
\nMildred Cheng<\/strong> is an artist, designer and DJ with a multidisciplinary approach and a flair for the vi- brant that matches Hong Kong\u2019s energy. She has worked as a creative and art director for brands in- cluding K11, Sephora and Nike, while co-founding DTBY, a design collective reimagining spaces with the local creative community.<\/p>\n

Vaevae Chan<\/strong> is an installation artist who turned inwards after a family tragedy and Hong Kong\u2019s re- cent upheaval, and transformed the 17th floor of a San Po Kong industrial building near the old Kai Tak airport into an Aladdin\u2019s cave of wonders with her walk-through installation \u201cShe Told Me to Head to the Sea\u201d.<\/p>\n

Xyza Cruz Bacani<\/strong> is a Filipina author and photographer who uses her work to raise awareness about under-reported stories. Having worked as a second-generation domestic worker in Hong Kong for al- most a decade, she is particularly interested in the intersection of labor migration and human rights. She is one of the Magnum Foundation Photography and Social Justice Fellows in 2015, has exhibited worldwide and won awards in photography.<\/p>\n

Jessie Rita Yip<\/strong> was born in Los Angeles, but she identifies as a Hongkonger. She has accumulated over 13 years of professional photography experience in New York, Beijing, and Hong Kong. She also has a strong interest in art, design, lifestyle, knitting, crochet, and cooking, while her personal style is known for its playful and colorful approach.<\/p>\n

Charlene Man<\/strong> is a freelance Illustrator who travels between Hong Kong and London. She enjoys combining colourful shapes and textures with a light hearted humour to create playful artworks. Her work takes influence from the dynamic evolution of the natural environment and urban architecture. She employs a decorative approach in her work and loves the interplay between graphics and crafts.<\/p>\n

HONG KONG, MEET MONDRIAN<\/strong>
\nMondrian Hong Kong General Manager Dirk Dalichau said he was thrilled to be partnering with five such inspiring artists and excited about this collaboration.<\/p>\n

\u201cMondrian, a pioneer of abstract art, developed a new way representing the world that can now be seen everywhere – from industrial design to culinary arts,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is impossible to overstate the importance of Mondrian\u2019s influence.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of our campaign to introduce and connect Mondrian to Hong Kong, we are diving head first into embracing the local artist community.
\n\u201cThe Postcards from Hong Kong project will introduce the hotel and the artists to major media publi- cations and journalists around the globe, by focusing on what is around us. By reminding people how incredibly visually rich, beautiful and unique Hong Kong is, interpreted through the lens of these ex- ceptional creatives. \u201d<\/p>\n
